This thesis explores the structural feasibility of reciprocal Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) slab systems for hybrid tall buildings, focusing on their ability to achieve two-way load distribution. The challenge addressed is the incompatibility between the one-way behavior of traditional CLT slabs and the two-way load transfer required for corner spans and irregular floor layouts in tall buildings. By employing reciprocal structural systems, this research proposes a solution that activates two-way load distribution using CLT panels, overcoming the inherent one-way load transfer behavior of the material. Through analytical reasoning, finite element modelling, and parametric design, the study demonstrates that reciprocal CLT slabs can effectively reduce deflections and replicate the stiffness and deformation behavior of ideal two-way systems. The integration of steel beams at selected locations further enhances load redistribution and serviceability performance. The results also confirm the suitability of parametric modelling for early-stage design, enabling the exploration of various configurations and material distributions. The thesis contributes to contemporary timber engineering by providing a new design approach for hybrid buildings, ensuring structural efficiency, sustainability, and flexibility.

Abstract
The thesis contributes to contemporary timber engineering by providing a new design approach for hybrid buildings, ensuring structural efficiency, sustainability, and flexibility.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
