Considered a “developing” country, Romania has tended in recent years to look towards modernity, associating it with an idea of progress and well-being, while relegating to the background customs, traditions and arts handed down through generations and now increasingly at risk of disappearing. The thesis offers a critical reflection on this tension between modernity and tradition through the reuse project of the thermoelectric power plant Steaua Electrică, a building of great architectural significance that has been abandoned for decades, converting it into a cultural centre dedicated to Romanian crafts and traditions. The project thus takes on metaphorical value: just as the industrial building, an abandoned architectural heritage destined for oblivion, is brought back to life through a new function, so artistic and cultural traditions find an active space for collective transmission and learning. Reuse between memory and identity recalls the desire to intertwine architectural memory and national identity, restoring meaning to a place and a community. The term "Gospodărie", which in Romanian refers to the organised whole of the house and its productive appurtenances, but which goes beyond the domestic sphere including shared management and collaboration for subsistence, is reinterpreted here as a contemporary system of integrated spaces, where the community participates in the conservation and redevelopment of tangible and intangible heritage. The methodological approach integrates adaptive regeneration and environmental sustainability strategies, providing for ecocompatible practices for the remediation of the site that allow for the partial recovery of the complex and the early start of activities, while ensuring the economic sustainability of the process. The thesis demonstrates how architectural reuse can become a tool for cultural, environmental and identity regeneration, promoting a renewed awareness of existing structures at risk.

Abstract
The thesis demonstrates how architectural reuse can become a tool for cultural, environmental and identity regeneration, promoting a renewed awareness of existing structures at risk.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
