Abstract
The procurement function is currently undergoing a fundamental paradigm shift, evolving from a tactical cost centre into a strategic value driver. In this context, Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI) emerges as a disruptive force, promising to redefine practices, people, and processes. However, significant uncertainty persists regarding the modalities, temporal horizons, and tangible operational impacts of its adoption. This research bridges the dichotomy between technological hype and operational reality by analysing the current state and evolutionary prospects of Gen AI in procurement towards the 2030 horizon. The methodology employs a triangular approach comprising a systematic literature review, a market analysis of technology providers, and a two-round Delphi study with a panel of senior procurement experts. The findings reveal a "Systemic Standoff" in the industry: while enthusiasm is high, organisational maturity remains the limiting factor, creating a paralysis loop between vendor caution and buyer unreadiness. Drawing from this empirical evidence, the study formulates four research propositions that serve as the foundation for a dynamic Adoption Framework tailored to the procurement function. Structured across three progressive maturity layers—Foundation, Integration, and Orchestration—the model provides buying organisations with a normative roadmap to navigate the complexity of Gen AI adoption, prioritising the alignment of specialized human capital with the exponential speed of technological change.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
