This thesis investigates resource adequacy and economic performance of the Italian power system under decarbonization pathways. Using zonal data on generation capacity, transmission limits, annual demand, and key economic parameters such as investment and fuel costs, the study evaluates the system’s ability to maintain reliability while increasing renewable penetration. The analysis identifies regional imbalances, the role of storage and interconnections, and the cost implications of the low-carbon transition, providing insights for secure and economically efficient energy planning in Italy.

Abstract
This thesis investigates resource adequacy and economic performance of the Italian power system under decarbonization pathways. Using zonal data on generation capacity, transmission limits, annual demand, and key economic parameters such as investment and fuel costs, the study evaluates the system’s ability to maintain reliability while increasing renewable penetration. The analysis identifies regional imbalances, the role of storage and interconnections, and the cost implications of the low-carbon transition, providing insights for secure and economically efficient energy planning in Italy.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
