This thesis examines the relationship between imagination, civic engagement, design, and future-oriented planning, with a particular focus on the role of emerging generations of adults in the transformation of local communities. The research originates from what is defined as a crisis of imagination, considered one of the wicked problems of our time, manifested in the increasing difficulty, especially among young people, to envision alternative and desirable futures. This condition has significant implications for trust in institutions and levels of civic participation. Within this framework, the study explores how this crisis can be addressed and how new forms of engagement may be fostered through the concept of civic imagination, understood as the capacity to envision alternatives to the existing reality and translate them into collective social action. The research is situated in the regional context of Puglia and investigates the contribution of practices such as design futures, foresight, and participatory design in processes of future anticipation and territorial governance. The outcome of the research is Manifesting Futures: a design-driven ecosystem aimed at developing civic imagination at the regional level. The project proposes an organizational and methodological framework and introduces a new professional role, the Civic Imagination Designer. It seeks to actively engage Generation Z in the co-creation of shared visions and micro-actions capable of informing and shaping future-oriented policy strategies for local communities.

It seeks to actively engage Generation Z in the co-creation of shared visions and micro-actions capable of informing and shaping future-oriented policy strategies for local communities.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
