La dai zovins : gli spazi di aggregazione giovanile per contrastare lo spopolamento dei piccoli centri urbani

This thesis addresses the phenomenon of youth depopulation in small Italian municipalities, which represent over 70% of the country's municipalities and occupy more than 50% of the territory, but accommodate only 15% of the population. The megatrend of urbanization and demographic and cultural changes push young people to migrate towards larger urban centers and abroad. The research initially analyzes demographic trends and youth migration dynamics, the current state of public spaces, associations and volunteering in small municipalities. Existing youth policies in Italy and reference models such as community hubs and community cooperatives are examined in depth. From a theoretical-design perspective, the thesis investigates the essential themes for creating spaces for young people as regenerative elements of the community: participatory design, the integration of spatial and service design, the recovery of underutilized spaces, the reuse of urban threshold spaces, user-centered design to ensure the space's future sustainability. The objective is to make small municipalities more attractive through the design of spaces that respond to youth needs. The research is concretized in a project for the municipality of Villesse (GO), developed through a preliminary mapping of institutions, activities and associations, and a participatory process involving institutions, potential young users and young volunteer activists. The proposed refunctionalization project is based on the concept of territorial and cultural memory as guiding elements for defining the space. Through this approach, an environment is created that generates opportunities for cultural learning, training and skills development, with the ultimate goal of strengthening the community network and offering young people a space for gathering, study, work and participation in collective life. From a spatial perspective, the metaphor guiding the project is the riverbed, which through its spatial and temporal dimensions and its relationship with water - a metaphorical element representing the community of people - brings out the characteristics of the space.

La presente tesi affronta il fenomeno dello spopolamento giovanile nei piccoli comuni italiani, che rappresentano oltre il 70% dei comuni del Paese e occupano più del 50% del territorio, ma accolgono appena il 15% della popolazione. Il megatrend dell'urbanizzazione e i cambiamenti demografici e culturali spingono i giovani a emigrare verso i centri urbani maggiori e verso l'estero. La ricerca analizza inizialmente i trend anagrafici e le dinamiche migratorie giovanili, lo stato attuale degli spazi pubblici, dell'associazionismo e del volontariato nei piccoli comuni. Vengono approfondite le politiche giovanili esistenti in Italia e i modelli di riferimento come i community hub e le cooperative di comunità. Dal punto di vista teorico-progettuale, la tesi indaga le tematiche essenziali per la creazione di spazi per giovani come elementi rigenerativi della comunità: il design partecipativo, l'integrazione tra spatial e service design, il recupero di spazi sottoutilizzati, il riuso degli spazi di soglia urbani, la progettazione centrata sugli utenti per garantire sostenibilità futura allo spazio. L'obiettivo è rendere i piccoli comuni più attrattivi attraverso la progettazione di spazi che rispondano ai bisogni giovanili. La ricerca si concretizza in un progetto per il comune di Villesse (GO), sviluppato attraverso una mappatura preliminare di enti, attività e associazioni, e un processo partecipativo che coinvolge istituzioni, giovani potenziali utenti e giovani attivatori del volontariato. Il progetto di rifunzionalizzazione proposto si fonda sul concetto di memoria del territorio e della cultura come elementi guida per la definizione dello spazio. Attraverso questo approccio, viene creato un ambiente che genera occasioni di apprendimento culturale, formazione e sviluppo di competenze, con il fine ultimo di rafforzare la rete comunitaria e offrire ai giovani uno spazio di ritrovo, studio, lavoro e partecipazione alla vita collettiva. Dal punto di vista spaziale la metafora che guida il progetto è l'alveo del fiume, che nelle sue dimensioni spaziali, temporali e di relazione con l'acqua - elemento metaforico che rappresenta la comunità di persone - fa emergere le caratteristiche dello spazio.
