The growth of P2P accommodation platforms has significantly transformed the hospitality industry, offering an alternative to traditional hotels and changing the way consumers evaluate accommodation options. This study analyzes how perceived risk, trust, and various aspects of value influence the choice between hotels and P2P accommodation, as well as how these relationships differ in the cultural contexts of China, Italy, and Russia. The study is grounded in theories of bounded rationality and reference-dependent decision-making under uncertainty, as well as in trust theory distinguishing institutional and platform-based trust mechanisms. Based on the quantitative survey data, a comparative approach is used that considers both direct factors of behavioral intentions and a relative assessment of the types of accommodation. For this purpose, indicators of the gap in behavioral intentions and the gap in risk are used, reflecting the logic of switching between hotels and P2P. The results show that the perceived risk does not reduce the intention to choose a specific type of accommodation directly but rather affects it through a comparative assessment of the two options. Trust proved to be the main factor in choosing hotels in all countries, emphasizing the importance of institutional reliability. In the case of P2P, economic value and authenticity play a key role, while their importance varies by country. A cross-national analysis revealed differences in preferences: in China and Russia, hotels are more often chosen, while in Italy there is a slight preference for P2P. However, the cultural context does not change the impact of comparative risk, which indicates that differences between countries are primarily related to value priorities rather than different risk sensitivities. In general, the study shows that the choice of accommodation is formed through different logics of trust and value and depends on a combination of the institutional environment and cultural characteristics. The findings contribute to trust theory and consumer behavior research by demonstrating that perceived risk operates as a comparative switching mechanism rather than a direct deterrent, and that cultural context moderates value prioritization rather than the underlying risk-processing logic.

Abstract
The findings contribute to trust theory and consumer behavior research by demonstrating that perceived risk operates as a comparative switching mechanism rather than a direct deterrent, and that cultural context moderates value prioritization rather than the underlying risk-processing logic.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
