This thesis challenges the assumption that small cities are declining or incomplete versions of large urban centers. Instead, it argues that small settlements are not failing — they are unfinished systems with untapped spatial, ecological, and social potential. Focusing on three settlements—Pittolo, Casoni, and Mucinasso—the project investigates how everyday life in these villages is weakened by fragmentation, functional separation, and dependency on commuting to Piacenza for work, services, and social interaction. Through a landscape‑driven strategy, the thesis proposes reconnecting living, production, and public space as an integrated territorial system. Nature is redefined not as background scenery, but as environmental, social, and spatial infrastructure. By activating agricultural fields, regenerating industrial voids, and strengthening local community hubs, the project demonstrates how small settlements can become contemporary alternatives to large cities. Rather than relying on isolated buildings, the proposal introduces light architectural interventions embedded within broader landscape systems, aiming to restore proximity, reduce dependency, and re‑establish complete everyday life at the local scale.

Abstract
Rather than relying on isolated buildings, the proposal introduces light architectural interventions embedded within broader landscape systems, aiming to restore proximity, reduce dependency, and re‑establish complete everyday life at the local scale.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
