This Thesis analyzes the evolution of the Passante Ferroviario di Milano infrastructure, from its initial activation to the present day. After describing and comparing traditional ballasted track and ballastless systems, the Thesis focuses on the verification of the current alignment, demonstrating compliance with the RFI technical standards for existing lines and the possibility of partially adapting the track to meet the technical requirements for the refurbishment of existing infrastructures. Subsequently, a planimetric optimization of the alignment is proposed to address non-compliances by introducing gauge widening and increasing the length of the cubic transition spirals, while considering the constraints imposed by the Minimum Obstacle Profile (PMO). Following the implementation of the "Test Field" in the Milan Passante Ferroviario and based on the vibrational analysis carried out during the monitoring in October 2025, it was decided to complete the study of the system by evaluating, through a finite element analysis (FEA) using Abaqus/CAE software, the stress state and displacements of the various elements constituting the track superstructure. The results highlight the high capacity of the system to reduce stresses even in the limit condition for the ballast, with a thickness equal to the minimum limit of 25 cm Required by technical standards. Furthermore, the use of the Under Ballast Mat (UBM), in addition to effectively damping vibrations, allows for the nearly total elimination of stresses on the foundation level thanks to its low stiffness characteristics and its damping coefficient.
