Once upon a time, when someone said, “I’m from Laveno,” everyone knew exactly where that was, because Laveno was synonymous with ceramics. Its products were present in every home, in every family, and during every holiday: it is very likely that the dishes used for celebrations, those handled with respect and pride on special occasions, were produced right there. The city, located in the province of Varese on the Lombardy shore of Lake Maggiore, became one of the most important manufacturing hubs thanks to the Società Ceramica Italiana (S.C.I.), founded in 1856. Laveno ceramics were renowned throughout Italy and abroad, appreciated for their quality, elegance, and the innovation of their shapes and decorations. However, today this strong identity has almost completely disappeared, and the famous Laveno ceramics are in danger of being forgotten. This thesis aims to propose a museum institution dedicated to ceramics, featuring contemporary exhibition spaces within the former Stabilimento Ponte, designed by the architect Piero Portaluppi. The complex is a prominent example of industrial architecture, yet despite its historical, architectural, and symbolic value, it currently lies in a state of advanced decay. In recent decades, numerous redevelopment projects for the plant have been hypothesized, but they have all proven disconnected from the historical vocation of the site and its profound identity. What is missing is a project genuinely rooted in the history of Laveno. Due to its scale and strategic location, the site represents a unique opportunity for cultural regeneration capable of recounting the past and present, while activating new opportunities for the future. The ultimate goal is to restore an active identity that can generate a concrete social and economic impact on the territory, preserving and passing on the heritage of Laveno ceramics.

Abstract
The ultimate goal is to restore an active identity that can generate a concrete social and economic impact on the territory, preserving and passing on the heritage of Laveno ceramics.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
