This thesis investigates the performance of the IEEE 802.11s mesh stack by analyzing the critical interplay between physical channel dynamics and the Hybrid Wireless Mesh Protocol (HWMP) logic. Developed in collaboration with Marelli Motorsport, the research provides an extensive evaluation of how real-world link quality dictates the efficiency and stability of peering establishment in mesh networks, with a specific focus on the extreme challenges posed by high-speed racing environments. The methodology follows a dual-track approach. First, a simulation-based study is conducted in the NS-3 environment using the IEEE 802.11a standard to evaluate protocol scalability and baseline behavior. This is then contrasted with an experimental validation performed on Qualcomm QCN9074 hardware, based on the IEEE 802.11ax standard. This comparison bridges the gap between theoretical legacy models and modern Wi-Fi 6 implementations. A significant portion of the work is dedicated to tracing the configuration path within the Linux networking stack, analyzing how mesh parameters propagate from the user space through the nl80211 subsystem down to the chipset's firmware. By comparing controlled static scenarios with high-mobility contexts, the study examines the protocol's sensitivity to specific management thresholds under rapidly changing signal conditions. This approach aims to identify the key factors that influence network reliability and connectivity in demanding wireless environments.

Abstract
This approach aims to identify the key factors that influence network reliability and connectivity in demanding wireless environments.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
