Khartoum—the heart of Sudan—has endured two years of armed conflict that ended in March 2025, leaving its urban fabric and social life deeply fractured. Two strategic military sites were central to this history: the Armed Forces headquarters in the northern part of Khartoum city and the Signal Corps site in the southern part of Khartoum North (Bahri). Once symbols of control and restriction, these complexes remain as visible reminders of instability and trauma. Positioned along a powerful spatial axis, the two sites are linked by a sequence of public institutions, the Blue Nile River, and two main bridges connecting both cities. This unique geography provides an opportunity not only to redevelop the individual sites but to regenerate the entire corridor—from one site, through the central urban zone, across the riverbanks and bridges, and toward the second site. The diversity of these environments enables a transformative, interconnected urban experience. This thesis proposes converting these former military strongholds into a unified, multifunctional, landscape-driven district. By integrating green systems, reactivated riverfronts, public space networks, and inclusive mixed-use development, the project aims to heal the scarred urban structure and create a vibrant, accessible, and socially connected environment. Landscape acts as the primary tool—stitching together fragmented areas, enhancing ecological performance, and restoring the emotional relationship between people and place.

Abstract
Landscape acts as the primary tool—stitching together fragmented areas, enhancing ecological performance, and restoring the emotional relationship between people and place.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
