Digital innovation is deeply transforming the insurance industry, a sector historically characterized by stability and high entry barriers. The emergence of Insurtech, defined as the integration of advanced digital technologies into insurance business models, is reshaping how risks are assessed, products are distributed, and value is created. Given the fragmented and multidisciplinary nature of the existing literature, a structured synthesis is needed to clarify the how this transformation is unfolding. This study analyses the academic literature on digital innovation in insurance through a systematic literature review combined with bibliometric and keyword co-occurrence network analyses. The final dataset, comprising 206 documents retrieved from Scopus, is used to map the different areas on which digital innovation impacts the insurance sector. The results reveal a rapidly growing body of research structured around four main thematic clusters: the overall digital transformation of the insurance sector, the role of technological enablers, the reshaping of consumer interfaces and the regulatory and societal implications of data-driven insurance models. Overall, findings show that digital innovation does not merely automate existing processes but also redefines the operating logic of the industry.

Abstract
Overall, findings show that digital innovation does not merely automate existing processes but also redefines the operating logic of the industry.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
