This thesis explores the archive as a design practice, challenging its conventional definition as a mere site of preservation. The research aims to examine how archiving, understood as a process of selection and arrangement, can actively shape the present. The study is grounded in the assumption that every archive is a situated construction. Systems of preservation are based on criteria of inclusion and exclusion and play a role in determining what becomes visible and knowable. If the archive is not neutral, then its organization must be understood as a design act. From this perspective, curating is not simply the ordering of materials, but the construction of a configuration that orients meaning. Choice is therefore not a technical step, but the gesture that gives form to the whole, transforming accumulation into structure and making clear that the archive comes into being through decisions. This theoretical framework is applied in the editorial project Palimpsest, a magazine that adopts the archive as a working method. Through the selection and juxtaposition of different archives, the project shows how editorial design can reveal the processes through which archives are constructed. The thesis ultimately argues that the archive takes shape through choices and relations, and that its design dimension lies precisely in this formative process.

Abstract
The thesis ultimately argues that the archive takes shape through choices and relations, and that its design dimension lies precisely in this formative process.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
