Umbria. Perugia.

Abstract
7 1. Augustan door, Perugia | Porta di Augusto, Perugia Umbria. Perugia. Etruscan Arch, also called Arch of Augustus, built in the mid-4th century b. C. and renovated in 40 a. C. due to the victory in the Perugia war. On the eastern tower stands a loggia built in the Renaissance period. The door is one of the many examples of those who are defined by Carbonara as "the embellishers" who "[...] in fact ask themselves why the artistic talent of contemporaries cannot and should not be measured against that of the ancients; as if this were not enough to respond to with th entire Contemporary Art with its disturbing “diversity” and incompatibility"1: those who operate following aesthetics, rather than historicist stasis, in the present. The superposition and juxtaposition of contemporary works alongside buildings belonging to previous eras have always been put into practice throughout history with unexpected results: the different components would have no reason to exist without each other. The thesis aims to investigate the approach taken by the group of BBPR architects in the design of elevations that dialogue with preexisting historical structures, be they a sixteenthcentury courtyard or a Milanese historical palace. The various aspects that characterize the aforementioned production will be analysed to this end, selecting four Italian case studies, carried out and otherwise, in the period from 1950 to 1966.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
