This thesis argues that infrastructure can operate as a catalyst for urban, ecological, and social regeneration within highly fragmented metropolitan environments. Focusing on the Rio Pinheiros corridor in São Paulo, the research examines how decades of river rectification, transport infrastructure expansion, and riverfront industrialisation have transformed the river from a natural landscape into a barrier that separates adjacent territories, limits public access, and disrupts ecological continuity. The study combines historical and territorial analysis with the investigation of Brazilian and international precedents that integrate infrastructure, landscape, and public space. Through this research, the thesis explores the potential of architectural and landscape interventions to reconnect fragmented urban environments while addressing contemporary challenges of mobility, environmental restoration, and civic life. The design proposal centres on the Connector Bridge, a new pedestrian and cycling crossing linking Cidade Universitária and Parque Villa-Lobos. Conceived as more than a transportation structure, the bridge forms the backbone of a broader intervention that includes a linear riverside park, accessible waterfront spaces, ecological corridors, and public amenities. By integrating mobility infrastructure with landscape and public space, the proposal seeks to transform the river from an infrastructural edge into a shared civic landscape. The project demonstrates how strategic infrastructural interventions can generate impacts beyond their primary function, strengthening spatial continuity between disconnected urban areas while improving environmental performance and public accessibility. The thesis concludes that the reintegration of mobility networks, ecological systems, and public life can contribute to a more resilient and inclusive relationship between the city and its waterways, offering an alternative vision for the future development of the Rio Pinheiros corridor.

Abstract
The thesis concludes that the reintegration of mobility networks, ecological systems, and public life can contribute to a more resilient and inclusive relationship between the city and its waterways, offering an alternative vision for the future development of the Rio Pinheiros corridor.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
