L'anfiteatro oltre lo spettacolo : progetto di uno spazio, tra scenico e pubblico, a Foggia

This thesis stems from a desire to reflect on the relationship between the city, public space, and sociality, observing how people tend to spontaneously gather around a performance, an event, or simply a collective situation in an open space. The research therefore examines those urban places that, over time, have fostered forms of encounter, permanence, and collective participation, analyzing the ways in which public space has been shaped throughout history, from ancient theaters and amphitheaters to contemporary squares, terraces, and public spaces. The project’s goal is to create a new urban amphitheater in the city of Foggia, conceived not only as a space for performances, but as a permanent public space capable of connecting different parts of the city and encouraging spontaneous forms of sociality. In this way, the amphitheater transcends the mere performance-event, becoming an urban space in which all forms of spontaneous sociality take place. The project therefore interprets the amphitheater as a natural evolution of some everyday urban behaviors, such as sitting, stopping, observing, and sharing a space with others, transforming these gestures into a collective device capable of building relationships between people, the landscape, and the city, hosting both organized and informal events.

Questa tesi nasce dalla volontà di riflettere sul rapporto tra città, spazio pubblico e socialità, osservando il modo in cui le persone tendono spontaneamente a riunirsi attorno ad uno spettacolo, ad un evento o semplicemente ad una situazione collettiva nello spazio aperto. La ricerca prende quindi in esame quei luoghi urbani che, nel tempo, hanno favorito forme di incontro, permanenza e partecipazione collettiva, analizzando i modi di formazione dello spazio pubblico nella storia, dai teatri e anfiteatri antichi fino alle piazze, alle gradonate e agli spazi pubblici contemporanei. L’obiettivo del progetto è la realizzazione di un nuovo anfiteatro urbano nella città di Foggia, pensato non soltanto come spazio destinato agli spettacoli, ma come luogo pubblico permanente capace di mettere in relazione differenti parti della città e incentivare forme spontanee di socialità. In questo modo, l’anfiteatro supera l’evento-spettacolo, diventando uno spazio urbano nel quale prendono luogo tutte quelle forme di socialità spontanea. Il progetto interpreta quindi l’anfiteatro come un’evoluzione naturale di alcuni comportamenti urbani quotidiani, quali sedersi, sostare, osservare e condividere uno spazio insieme ad altri individui, trasformando questi gesti in un dispositivo collettivo capace di costruire relazioni tra persone, paesaggio e città, accogliendo eventi organizzati e non.
