This thesis explores the opportunity of reusing and repurposing the land of the Cape Greco peninsula. It hosted a long history, starting from Neolithic times and was later on inhibited by British army during the 1950s and after that, the French and the American radio stations were built. It has a history of connection from ancient times until recently, acting as a point of communication, trade and navigation. The site hosts elements from each of its significant periods including mythological times, while also being a Natura 2000 Zone. The proposal of the thesis is a concept to culturally enrich places that were previously used for various purposes such as military or governmental, specifically on the coastline of the island, encouraging a more positive type of tourism, both local and international. This area could continue its history as a connective point by housing a cultural center and park. The existing buildings would be preserved and repurposed, with the lighthouse still acting as a main element representing its importance throughout history. Maintaining and increasing the biodiversity of the area is also an important part of the project concept as the aim is to recreate a natural oasis surrounding the built structures allowing this beautiful peninsula to represent the community. Sustainability has an important role in the project and can be seen in various aspects, including the no car zone, the materiality and fauna. The proposal represents a new building which is created with consideration of the landscape, using local materials and following the aesthetic of the terrain and the sea caves, creating a horizontal monument which is humble in its surrounding. Meanwhile external activities and paths are proposed to enhance the site and create a coastal park for visitors.

Abstract
Meanwhile external activities and paths are proposed to enhance the site and create a coastal park for visitors.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
