This study involves the analysis of the Fe/MgO(001) interface using linear and nonlinear magneto-optical techniques. After an introduction to magnetism and the growing importance of surface and interface physics, the MOKE and MSHG magneto-optical techniques will be presented, highlighting their advantages for studying magnetic materials alongside the relevant mathematical formalism. Finally, results obtained from the analysis of an Fe/MgO(001) sample will be presented, demonstrating the information that can be derived by combining these techniques. Particular emphasis will be placed on the possibility to reconstruct magnetic domain kinetics and on the potential presence of an interfacial exchange spring that asymmetrically influences the magnetic reversal process across the two magnetization inversion processes in the hysteresis cycle.

Abstract
This study involves the analysis of the Fe/MgO(001) interface using linear and nonlinear magneto-optical techniques. After an introduction to magnetism and the growing importance of surface and interface physics, the MOKE and MSHG magneto-optical techniques will be presented, highlighting their advantages for studying magnetic materials alongside the relevant mathematical formalism. Finally, results obtained from the analysis of an Fe/MgO(001) sample will be presented, demonstrating the information that can be derived by combining these techniques. Particular emphasis will be placed on the possibility to reconstruct magnetic domain kinetics and on the potential presence of an interfacial exchange spring that asymmetrically influences the magnetic reversal process across the two magnetization inversion processes in the hysteresis cycle.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
