The automation of painting processes for window frames represents a complex challenge in engineering and applied robotics, as it requires the integration of computer vision techniques and robotic trajectory planning to handle a wide variety of geometries. In industrial settings, the established approach involves processing 2D scans to extract geometric information and subsequently programming the painting path accordingly. The work presented in this thesis adopts this perspective and aims to optimize the current industrial process through the integration of artificial intelligence techniques. The final outcome consists of a convolutional neural network for the semantic segmentation of scans, a graph neural network for classifying the painting type of the segmented areas and a rule-based trajectory planning module.

Abstract
The automation of painting processes for window frames represents a complex challenge in engineering and applied robotics, as it requires the integration of computer vision techniques and robotic trajectory planning to handle a wide variety of geometries. In industrial settings, the established approach involves processing 2D scans to extract geometric information and subsequently programming the painting path accordingly. The work presented in this thesis adopts this perspective and aims to optimize the current industrial process through the integration of artificial intelligence techniques. The final outcome consists of a convolutional neural network for the semantic segmentation of scans, a graph neural network for classifying the painting type of the segmented areas and a rule-based trajectory planning module.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
