Indoor and Outdoor localization of wireless devices has become an area of interesting research in recent years. It has gained an attraction for some specific applications such as automation and security of buildings and homes, tracking and monitoring of goods, control of vehicles; it is also used in agriculture, in cases of emergency, such as fire services, in hospitals for medical treatment. A method for wireless location is the estimate of the distance. Many conventional tracking systems use the power of the received signal to estimate the distance between two devices. This technique however may be subject to large errors, particularly for long distances. The measure of Time of Flight (ToF) of a radio signal can give a more accurate alternative, in the long run. The approach used here is based on an estimate of the distance from the ToF measurements using wireless devices that use radio chips based on the standard IEEE 802.15.4. The JENNIC chip JN5148 includes a hardware engine that enables distance measurements between two devices using the ToF. The measurements were carried out in different scenarios, indoor and outdoor environments, and experimental results have shown the possibility of designing a promising location system.

Abstract
The measurements were carried out in different scenarios, indoor and outdoor environments, and experimental results have shown the possibility of designing a promising location system.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
