There is an utmost need to promote science and technology especially amongst the younger generation. The aim of this thesis is to develop a comprehensive science node that addresses through educative means the issue of science. We have chosen an international competition in Belgrade; Serbia, that comprises Urban, Architectural, Structural and Technological Design aspects. The aspects of the competition are further explained in the Chapter 1. In the Urban design part, we came up with strategies for a Science and Art Campus and Centre for Science. We looked at the context of new Belgrade and the location of Block 39 within it. We further developed the urban ideas into a master plan for block 39 and incorporated it within a bigger framework for New Belgrade. The architecture section, we focused more on the Centre for Science, developing massing and architectural options in accordance with the master plan of the block 39. Further attention was paid to the expression and aesthetic of the facility. For the flexibility and long span design we used Precast/prestressed concrete which can contribute to sustainable design in many ways. It is a versatile and durable. The choices for Technological Design and Building Physics have been based heavily on energy efficiency and comfort. Informed choices were made to formulate a strategy for the functionality of the building. We also made sure the technological solutions will bring awareness towards science among the visitors to the facility. In the following chapters we have explained in detail the design procedure as well as the final outcome. Each chapter is then subdivided into sections or subsections to further clarify the design process. Necessary illustrations and references have been placed where needed to exemplify our project. Subsequently we have taken care to meet with the standards and codes while aspiring for an efficient, environmentally sustainable and economic project.
