This work discusses the quality criteria in production of bushings and aims to increase the efficiency of a system that is currently in use at Alstom's Passoni&Villa Unit. Two separate areas of focus are considered: the bushing papers and the mineral oil that serves in production of the O.I.P. bushings. Through better purification of the materials, the dialectic property of the bushings can be increased, leading to higher qualities. As far as the bushing papers are considered, improvements are suggested through the use of a rewinding machine which serves to dehumidify the paper. The process allows obtaining lower tangent delta values that are defined as a norm in quantitative measurement. The aim is to minimize the numbers of faulty products and to surpass the increasing standards in the norms. As for the O.I.P. type bushings, mineral oil is used for filling the bushing chamber and performing tests. However, the oil used in these processes arrives at the factory in need of purification from contaminated components such as humidity and gas. In scope of this work, the oil treatment facility that is currently in use is schematized to contribute to the understanding of the complete process. Then, the design of a new treatment plant is developed and explained in detail. The new design aims to achieve lower lead times that allow faster operation and to occupy minimal space in the new company complex. Both projects rely heavily on automation to minimize human interaction and therefore maximize the efficiency of the complete system.
