To enhance a sustainable growth, the European Union set, in the 20/20/20 strategy, tree important objectives: the reduction of 20% of carbon gas compared to 1990 level; the achievement of 20% of renewable energy; the improvement of energy efficiency, in order to reach a 20% cut in final energy consumption. For Italy, that means a reduction in carbon gas of about 14% compared to 2005 level and a 17% share of renewable energy until 2020. In Italy, like in the rest of Europe, civil sector (that includes households, offices, shops, and Public Administration buildings), is the one with the highest share of energy consumption (35,2% in 2009). The energy efficiency market is a great business opportunity, but it’s also the possibility for Italy to reduce its dependence from fossil energy, touching its bigger voice of energy consumption: the household sector. In this work business opportunities in residential building energy efficiency systems will be analyzed. Furthermore market potential will be calculated and a segmentation hypothesis will be proposed.

Abstract
To enhance a sustainable growth, the European Union set, in the 20/20/20 strategy, tree important objectives: the reduction of 20% of carbon gas compared to 1990 level; the achievement of 20% of renewable energy; the improvement of energy efficiency, in order to reach a 20% cut in final energy consumption. For Italy, that means a reduction in carbon gas of about 14% compared to 2005 level and a 17% share of renewable energy until 2020. The energy efficiency market is a great business opportunity, but it’s also the possibility for Italy to reduce its dependence from fossil energy, touching its bigger voice of energy consumption: the household sector. In this work business opportunities in residential building energy efficiency systems will be analyzed.
