The thesis purpose is to study the dynamic activity of the bipolar cells (BCs) synapses in the inner plexiform layer (IPL) of the vertebrate retina. The retina is the neuronal machinery of the eye and performs the first processing operations on the visual information. I have used optical methods to record the synaptic activity in the IPL during a light stimulation and then I have implemented algorithms to extract quantitative parameters from the synaptic activity. I have used the parameters for studies of population between the different types of BCs and for analyzing their spatial distribution in the IPL. Finally I have employed the model identification methods to have a mathematical description and representation of the dynamical behavior of the BCs.

Abstract
The thesis purpose is to study the dynamic activity of the bipolar cells (BCs) synapses in the inner plexiform layer (IPL) of the vertebrate retina. The retina is the neuronal machinery of the eye and performs the first processing operations on the visual information. I have used optical methods to record the synaptic activity in the IPL during a light stimulation and then I have implemented algorithms to extract quantitative parameters from the synaptic activity. I have used the parameters for studies of population between the different types of BCs and for analyzing their spatial distribution in the IPL. Finally I have employed the model identification methods to have a mathematical description and representation of the dynamical behavior of the BCs.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
