The aim of my thesis is to be able to preserve the tacit know-how of refined artisans, thanks to the mediation of designers, who take on both the role of explorers of such knowledge and of mediators to common people's needs. The designer's task is to take this implicit know-how as an opportunity to develop projects of furniture pieces with the contribution of modern art for a futuristic vision on one side, and of industry for marketing on the other. The research process to achieve this goal has been rather complex: after an historical analysis of the Brianza district, mainly focused on the furniture manufacturing area, I have tried to find artisans endowed with these qualities, then I have cerried out a careful study of languages and inspirational themes through contemporary art in order to finally develop conceptual solutions. The development and testing stages have obviously been carried out with the aid of the artisans, applying their peculiar skills and techniques. Then the prototype moment followed, a crucial step which will allow us to make an experimental test providing useful feedbacks, in case of production and marketing of the prototype itself. In conclusion, the development of two practical projects with two different artisans, starting from their implied skills, but with the fascination and visions of modern art and the intermediary role played by industries for the commercial release, has proved that the role played by a designer as a mediator is effective, as he succeeds in preserving handicrafted qualities which would otherwise get lost for ever.

Abstract
In conclusion, the development of two practical projects with two different artisans, starting from their implied skills, but with the fascination and visions of modern art and the intermediary role played by industries for the commercial release, has proved that the role played by a designer as a mediator is effective, as he succeeds in preserving handicrafted qualities which would otherwise get lost for ever.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
