Nowadays the importance of sound in virtual reality and multimedia systems has brought to the definition of 3DA rendering techniques that provide an impressive immersion inside the sound scene. Ambisonic Surround Sound System, which represents a series of recording and replay techniques using multichannel mixing technology that can be used both live or in the studio, is one of the most important systems available. The intent of this thesis has been to develop a live software tool for music production and mixing able to manage several mono signals (audio tracks) in a 3D sound space, feeding the Ambisonic PA nearfield system. The developed tool, called AmbiRewire3D, plays on the combined job between the Rewire System (a protocol that allows remote control and data transfer among digital audio editing and related software) and the Ambisonic Surround Sound System. AmbiRewire3D has been completely developed in Max/MSP, an extraordi- nary interactive graphical programming environment for music, audio, and media. Max/MSP adds on real-time audio synthesis and DSP.
