Abstract
In this work the bispectral analysis was used as a method to investigate the non-linearities that occur in the cochlea and that can be measured by means of otoacoustic emissions (OAEs). In particular the transient evoked otoacoustic emissions (TEOAEs) of normal hearing adults were studied and they were used to extract the features more relevant from the bispectrum: the mean magnitude and the normalized bispectral entropy. Then the magnitude of the bispectrum of normal hearing full-term neonates was studied analyzing the difference in terms of quadratic phase couplings (QPCs) with adults. At the end the magnitude of the bispectrum of normal hearing preterm babies was studied as a function of post-conceptional ages (PCAs). The mean magnitude of the bispectrum and the normalized bispectral entropy were used to prove that exists a growing trend in the non-linear properties of the cochlea of all neonates: increasing the PCA the maturation of the cochlea can be quantified with a significant increase of the bispectrum features.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
