Dare terra al mondo

The thesis develops the theme of social benefits related to urban gardens, which are intended as agri-cultural sharing laboratories capable of returning to quality food its socializing value. Moreover, the gardens are not only an opportunity to recover and revitalize abandoned and unattractive places, turning them into "gardens" where locals can socialize and work together, but they become element of the aggregation for the cultures of the different foreign communities of Milan. This is possible through the effective partnership between immigrants and residents of Italian origin, which allow to pool together their skills, resources and knowledge in order to create a system of cultural exchange through the key to the reading of food and nutrition. These gardens will host those exogenous varieties that are staples food of the traditions of other peoples. These products are not found in our country (or are at prohibitive prices) because of the long import journeys that affect their quality and freshness. In addition, the project also wants to seize the potential offered by the growing demand for such products, which can be important for the integration of the local farmers income. In fact, thanks to a widening of their production, these farms may be involved in the ethnic food market, which now growing. To sum, focusing on the cultivation of these exogenous products allow, on one hand to promote the maintenance of the different cultural identities which risk of being lost with the migration, on the other hand it allow to improve integration and cultural exchanges. Furthermore, expanding the theme looking at the agricultural production, increase the supply of quality and local fruit and vegetables could be possible, beside contributing to enhancing the skills of the local farms.

La tesi sviluppa il tema dei benefici sociali legati agli orti urbani, da intendersi come laboratori agricolo-culturali di condivisione in grado di restituire al cibo di qualità il suo valore socializzante. Inoltre gli orti non sono solo un’occasione per recuperare e rivitalizzare luoghi abbandonati e poco gradevoli, trasformandoli in “giardini” dove gli abitanti locali possono socializzare e lavorare insieme, ma diventano elemento di aggregazione delle culture delle diverse comunità straniere di Milano. Ciò è possibile dalla collaborazione fattiva tra gli immigrati ed i residenti di origine italiana, collaborazione che fa mettere in comune le loro capacità, risorse e conoscenze, per creare un sistema di scambio culturale attraverso la chiave di lettura del cibo e dell’alimentazione. Questi orti ospiteranno quindi anche quelle varietà esogene che sono alla base delle tradizioni alimentari di altre popolazioni, i cui prodotti non si trovano nel nostro Paese (o si trovano a prezzi proibitivi) a causa dei lunghi viaggi di importazione che fanno perdere la loro qualità e freschezza. Inoltre, il progetto vuole cogliere le potenzialità offerte anche dalla costante crescita di domanda per questo genere di prodotti, domanda che può rappresentare un’importante integrazione di reddito per le aziende agricole locali. Infatti, grazie all’allargamento della loro produzione, queste aziende potrebbero essere coinvolte nel mercato del cibo etnico, oggi in continua espansione. In sintesi, puntare sulla coltivazione di questi prodotti esogeni, consentirebbe da un lato di favorire il mantenimento delle diverse identità culturali che rischiano di perdersi con la migrazione, e dall’altro a promuovere l’integrazione e lo scambio culturale. Inoltre, allargando il tema a livello di produzione agricola, si riuscirebbe ad incrementare l’offerta dei prodotti ortofrutticoli di qualità a chilometro zero, contribuendo anche a valorizzare le professionalità delle aziende agricole locali.
