Abstract The European Commission has three main priorities for the year 2020. - Smart growth: Developing an economy based on knowledge and innovation. - Sustainable growth: Promoting a more resource efficient, greener and more competitive economy. - Inclusive growth: Fostering a high-employment economy delivering economic, social and territorial cohesion. The thesis creates a core to promote the generation of new relations regarding scientific issues. It plants a seed to foster scientific knowledge, sustainability and innovation. It has been developed an open international architectural competition related to the above explained concerns. The Design for the Centre for Promotion of Science, and the conceptual design for the University Campus next to it. Both located in the urban Blok 39, New Belgrade – Serbia. The competition presents a unique opportunity to express an integrated vision of urban design, architecture design and engineering. The Urban design, explains the perception of the city and the need to improve some key points to reach better and more integrated green public spaces. And how this network is connected to the University Campus and the Centre for Promotion of Science. During the development of the Urban design, it has emerged the awareness for the importance of the period, characteristics, and use of the surrounding buildings to Blok 39, therefore it is presented a succinct summary of the development of a refurbishment project for a residential building located next to Blok 39. The Architectural design, explains a synthesis of the local and global concerns. It executes actions in relation to different constraints, different opportunities, and different scales. The architectural design governs the interactions between the concepts, the techniques and the technologies. The Structural design, is the result of the search for the most balanced and efficient manner to stabilize the concepts. It is essential the choice of appropriate systems, and materials to interact with Architecture and Technology. The Technology and Building Physics, explains the strong aim of the thesis, to show symbiosis among Architecture and Sustainability. By making right, informed and responsible decisions at early stages of the project. In the following Chapters we explicate the process in which we engaged to accomplish the final outcome.
