New lean burn combustion systems penalise high pressure turbines’ performance. A numerical study on two turbines has been done for investigating innovative design that may counteract the losses. It has been chosen to use two different optimisation techniques. This is because the study and the knowledge of these techniques will help future components’ development. Hence looking at the available tools, bugs in the code have been resolved as well as brand new scripts written for interfacing the simulation tools. The new shapes found by the optimisers have been studied. The new design is able to counteract the lean burn induced losses. In the best case an improvement of 1% in efficiency has been found, the other stage’s characteristic values were fixed. The key elements defining the new shape have been detected in both the optimisation, this mean that both the techniques are able to find the optimal shape.

Abstract
The key elements defining the new shape have been detected in both the optimisation, this mean that both the techniques are able to find the optimal shape.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
