The target of this thesis is to analyze a non premixed swirl burner, with coaxial jets, natural gas fueled . The general goal is to define by CFD analysis a numerical strategy, RANS based, which simulates the combustion of an enclosed jet with high swirl number (Re = 14.300 / S = 1,13 / Φ = 0,9 / 24,8 kW). For this purpose, experimental measures parallel with numerical simulation (obtained by Ansys Fluent 12), both in isothermal conditions and in combustion conditions. At the same time experimental results are compared with numerical results. The experimental activity investigates the frequency of Precessing Vortex Core (PVC), describes the burning jet with imaging, measures the velocities with Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV), and measures the temperature and the composition of exhaust gas at burner’s exit (CO2, O2, CO e UHC). In general, experimental measures were conducted changing the swirl number, the total mass flow and the air/fuel ratio. The definition of the numerical domain and boundary conditions anticipates the main simulation. The numerical activity tests some turbolence models (k-ε and k-ω and many of their versions), radiation models (Discrete Ordinates and P-1) and combustion models (Eddy Dissipation, Eddy Dissipation Concept, Flamelet).

Abstract
The numerical activity tests some turbolence models (k-ε and k-ω and many of their versions), radiation models (Discrete Ordinates and P-1) and combustion models (Eddy Dissipation, Eddy Dissipation Concept, Flamelet).File | Dimensione | Formato | |
