The object of this work is the study of an analytical tool for the evaluation of stress induced in a glass plate as a result of cold bending, in a big displacements behavior, based on the inextensional theory of thin plates, deforming flexurally into developable surfaces. Some basic notions about differential geometry and plate mechanichs are presented. It's then introduced the inextensional theory and the boundary layer phenomena along the edges. This theory is then applied to the study of elastic cold bending of glass panels; the analytical results obtained for a number of notable cases are compared with those obtained by finite element analysis. The aim of this work is the study of a fast analytical tool for pre-sizing of cold bent glass, also in a "form finding" design approach.

Abstract
The object of this work is the study of an analytical tool for the evaluation of stress induced in a glass plate as a result of cold bending, in a big displacements behavior, based on the inextensional theory of thin plates, deforming flexurally into developable surfaces. Some basic notions about differential geometry and plate mechanichs are presented. It's then introduced the inextensional theory and the boundary layer phenomena along the edges. This theory is then applied to the study of elastic cold bending of glass panels; the analytical results obtained for a number of notable cases are compared with those obtained by finite element analysis. The aim of this work is the study of a fast analytical tool for pre-sizing of cold bent glass, also in a "form finding" design approach.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
