Flamingo : bike ambulance per il Sunderbans e i paesi in via di sviluppo

The project is born to be later-on placed in context that is both culturally and physically far from ours, in Sunderbans (India) and with the purpose to be potentially extendable to the realities of the developing countries. It would respond to an existing need for a transportation unit in cases of emergency at the service of the poverty facing populations. This is why Flamingo bike-ambulance is born to be integrated with the context by respecting the cultural, social and economic aspects, in terms of feasibility and solutions offered, by seeing simplicity as the best answer to an existing need. Therefor, by using materials and production processes present in the villages of Sunderbans, the solution offered is characterized by it’s low-cost, simplicity and reconfigurable structure. It’s reconfigurable feature is the key element in finding the answer to the peculiarities of such a climatically unstable environment as the one of Sunderbans is. And yet again, it is the reconfigurable feature to make the difference in comparison with the bike-ambulances used it the underdeveloped countries till now. The present thesis emphasizes the whole project process path that has brought to the product development: the research phase focused on the Indian context as well as on similar ones, passing through the analysis of the sanitary and medical services present in Sunderbans, till the very development of the product phase, subdivided in research and meta-design, concept generation and engineering.

Il progetto nasce per essere inserito in un contesto culturalmente e fisicamente lontano dal nostro, in Sunderbans (India) e con l’intento di estendersi ai Paesi in Via di Sviluppo per andare a soddisfare la necessità di un mezzo per il primo soccorso al servizio della popolazione più povera. Per questo motivo Flamingo bike-ambulance nasce dalla volontà di integrarsi con il contesto, rispettandone gli aspetti culturali, sociali ed economici, in termini di fattibilità e di soluzioni sviluppate; vedendo nella semplicità la migliore risposta ad una esigenza concreta. Utilizzando quindi processi e materiali propri dei villaggi del Sunderbans, viene proposta una soluzione che si contraddistingue per essere economica, semplice e riconfigurabile. Proprio la rinconfigurabilità costituisce l’elemento chiave e di risposta ad un contesto climaticamente così mutevole e proprio la riconfigurabilità costiuisce l’elemento di differenziazione rispetto alle bike-ambulance ad oggi utilizzate nei Paesi in Via di Sviluppo. Si presenta pertanto in questa tesi tutto l’iter progettuale che ha portato allo sviluppo del prodotto: dalla fase di ricerca sul contesto indiano e quelli analoghi, passando per l’analisi della situazione sanitaria presente in Sunderbans, fino ad arrivare al vero e proprio sviluppo prodotto, articolato nelle fasi di ideazione, concept e ingegnerizzazione.
