Centro culturale Mottana : progetto del nuovo polo culturale di Tirano, tra recupero e innovazione

The thesis presents a plan for the renovation of the ex Mottana area located in the center of Tirano (Province of Sondrio). The lot is characterized by the presence of a building from the early Nineteenth Century recognized as an example of industrial archeology. Initially used as a spinning-mill, after the abandonment of production the building has become headquarters of the “Guardia di Finanza” and then it has been completely abandoned in the Eighties. The project has evolved from the analysis of the territory and the historical context and the survey of the state of the existent building to the design of a centre that satisfies the needs of the territory from the functional point of view and from the sustainability point of view pursuing the “Zero energy” goal. The project includes not only the refunctionalization and the requalification of the existing complex but also the construction of a new building, in order to create a cultural center for young people. The new edifice includes the library, while the former spinning-mill contains businesses (bar, bookshop), cultural workshops, auditorium, canteen and student housing. The last part of the thesis has focused on the structural aspects, the plant system, the study of daylighting and the study of the landscape elements. The structural analysis includes the size of the elements composing the system of the new building, while, referring to the stable recovered, quality choices have been made in order to ensure the static upgrade and structural reinforcement. The plant study aims to define the type of system to choose on the basis of calculation of energy requirements and technological project, which develops the performance adaptation of the spinning-mill, as well as the study of the new building envelope, paying particular attention to the energy efficiency. The theme of light develops the study of optimal indoor conditions that allow users to perform tasks within the spaces of the library in conditions of comfort, with particular attention to the choice and the location of the shading devices. From the landscape point of view, we’ve analyzed the context on three levels of study to verify the compatibility of the project in order to define potential mitigation actions.

La tesi presenta una proposta per il recupero dell’area ex Mottana situata nel centro della città di Tirano (provincia di Sondrio). Il lotto è caratterizzato dalla presenza di un edificio risalente alla prima metà dell’Ottocento riconosciuto come esempio di archeologia industriale. Inizialmente adibito a filanda, a seguito della dismissione dell’attività produttiva, lo stabile è diventato sede della Guardia di Finanza per poi essere abbandonato completamente negli anni Ottanta. Il progetto di tesi si è sviluppato per livelli successivi a partire dalle analisi del contesto territoriale e storico e dal rilievo dello stato di fatto dell’edificio esistente al fine di progettare un complesso che soddisfi le esigenze del territorio dal punto di vista funzionale e della sostenibilità perseguendo l’obiettivo Energia Zero. Il progetto prevede da un lato la rifunzionalizzazione e la riqualificazione del complesso esistente, dall’altro la costruzione ex novo di un edificio, al fine di realizzare un polo culturale per i giovani. Il fabbricato di nuova costruzione accoglie la biblioteca mentre nell’ex filanda si articolano le attività commerciali (bar, libreria), i laboratori culturali, l’auditorium, il servizio mensa e gli alloggi per studenti. Le tematiche oggetto di approfondimento sono l’aspetto strutturale, il sistema impiantistico, lo studio della luce e gli elementi paesaggistici. Il progetto strutturale comprende il dimensionamento degli elementi portanti del corpo di nuova costruzione mentre, con riferimento allo stabile recuperato, sono state svolte delle scelte qualitative sulle modalità di intervento per garantirne l’adeguamento statico. Lo studio impiantistico mira alla definizione della tipologia di impianto da adottare sulla base del calcolo del fabbisogno energetico e del progetto tecnologico che, oltre all’adeguamento prestazionale della filanda, sviluppa lo studio dell’involucro del nuovo fabbricato ponendo particolare attenzione all’efficienza energetica. Il tema della luce sviluppa lo studio delle condizioni di illuminazione ottimali che permettono di svolgere le attività all’interno degli spazi della biblioteca in condizioni di comfort ponendo particolare attenzione alla scelta e al posizionamento degli elementi di schermatura. Dal punto di vista paesaggistico si è analizzato il contesto su tre livelli di approfondimento per verificare la compatibilità paesaggistica del progetto al fine di definire eventuali interventi di mitigazione.
