Towards autonomic context aware pervasive systems

The purpose of this work of thesis has been the analysis and the introduction of the concept of context inside the modern pervasive systems as well as the study of the possible actions that can be performed on the system when the environment, where it is operating, finds itself in a precise context. The ability of i) specifying simple and predetermined actions, joined with the possibility of ii) building and deciding the actions to be performed according to the detected context and, eventually, to iii) modify some of its aspects (paving the way for context evolution) are the major contributions of this work and lay the fundamentals for a new generation of context aware pervasive systems.

Scopo di questo lavoro di tesi è stata l’analisi e l’introduzione del concetto di contesto all’interno dei moderni sistemi pervasivi e delle possibili azioni che possono essere compiute sul sistema quando l’ambiente in cui esso è collocato si trova in un determinato contesto. La capacità di i) specificare semplici e predeterminate azioni, unita alla possibilità di ii) costruire e decidere le azioni da compiere a seconda del contesto attualmente attivo (code tailoring) ed eventualmente di iii) modificarne alcuni aspetti (aprendo la strada per la context evolution), rappresentano i maggiori contributi di questo lavoro e pongono i primi fondamenti per una nuova generazione di sistemi pervasivi sensibili al contesto.
