Multiphase pumps can handle multiphase streams of oil, gas and water, as same as they are extracted from wells. The machinery is not subjected to failure due the presence of a multiphase stream, as it could be for conventional pumps or compressors. The thesis highlights the advantages associated to the application of the multiphase pumps, in terms of hydrocarbons production and transport, throughout the case study of the application to the Wafa field in Libya. The installation of the machinery allows an increase in oil and gas flow rates, an increase in the final recovery of hydrocarbons and the flaring-down of the gas produced from a low pressure well. The incidence of the costs associated to multiphase pumping operations on extra-cost per barrel of oil produced is very slight and pay-back time is in the magnitude of a few months.
Le pompe multifase sono macchine in grado di trattare una portata di olio, gas e acqua così com’è estratta dai pozzi petroliferi, senza che l’integrità delle stesse sia minacciata dalla presenza di un fluido multifase, come accadrebbe invece per una pompa o per un compressore convenzionale. La tesi evidenzia i benefici associati all’utilizzo di queste macchine in termini di produzione e trasporto degli idrocarburi, mediante lo studio di un caso reale di applicazione al campo di Wafa in Libia. L’installazione di un sistema di pompaggio multifase permette di ottenere un aumento dell'olio e del gas in erogazione dal pozzo, un aumento del recupero complessivo d’idrocarburi del campo e permette di evitare lo smaltimento in fiaccola del gas prodotto da un pozzo a bassa pressione. L’incidenza dei costi associati al pompaggio multifase per barile di olio prodotto è molto bassa e i tempi di rientro economico dell’investimento sono dell’ordine di qualche mese.
