Confort e abitare contemporaneo

This dissertation intends to investigate comfort, which has a complex nature. Comfort is not an objective element, but is subjectively perceived. It is implicitly considered a positive aspect of the housing project. The study focuses on urban housing, in the context of western culture. The study starts with an assessments on how comfort, in its different aspects, becomes an integral part of modern living: historically it refers to the themes of the project and its program (the measurements, the technique, the responsible relationship with the environment, the interaction with human desires and behaviours). Through the analysis of constructed buildings and through the relationships that the buildings establish in terms of perception with the residents, the study tries to explore the possibility of a quest for comfort that is expressed in the spatial qualities perceivable through the senses. One can identify two fundamental aspects: - the elements of the housing project: paths and measures, views, light, colour, materials, climate. Elements which through the distribution and the articulation of spaces and their shape, link different functions and uses. - the design strategies: the transformation, the flexibility and the indeterminacy. These are current strategies used in response to contemporary living needs. The dissertation checks out the need for a project which meets the requests in a synthetic way; and not as a sheer sum of autonomous responses to the demands, more and more uncertain, of quality and comfort. Therefore comfort is not intended as technical equipment, a performance, or even an aspect measurable by parameters; comfort is instead intended in its perceptual and subjective aspects, linked to the expression of desires and sedimentation of practices. The quest of comfort (within the cultural proposal pushing the concept of flexibility towards the concept of indeterminacy) tests possibilities of techniques and design. These possibilities move towards multiple layers and versatile uses. The quest of comfort allows one to highlight within the project the unique individual essence of human being.

La tesi intende effettuare uno studio sul confort, elemento dalla natura complessa, non oggettivabile ma percepibile soggettivamente, che viene assunto come elemento implicito e positivo del progetto abitativo. Lo studio si concentra sull'abitazione urbana plurifamiliare, in contesto culturale occidentale. Lo studio affronta inizialmente come il confort, nei suoi diversi aspetti, sia costitutivo dell'abitare moderno: riguarda, storicamente, i temi del progetto e del suo programma (le misure, la tecnica, il rapporto responsabile con l'ambiente, la dialettica con i comportamenti e i desideri umani). Attraverso la lettura di edifici costruiti e delle relazioni che essi instaurano in termini di percezione con gli abitanti, si vorrebbe verificare la possibilità di una ricerca di confort che si esprime nelle qualità spaziali; qualità spaziali che sono percepibili attraverso i sensi. Si individuano quindi due aspetti fondamentali: - gli elementi che costituiscono il materiale del progetto dell'abitazione: percorsi e misure, visuali, luce, colore, materiali, clima. Questi elementi attraverso la distribuzione mettono in relazione le funzioni e gli usi con l’articolazione degli spazi e la loro forma. - le strategie progettuali: la trasformazione, la flessibilità e l'indeterminatezza. Strategie che sono già in atto nella risposta alle domande abitative contemporanee. Lo studio vuole verificare la necessità di un progetto che risponda in modo sintetico e non come sommatoria di risposte autonome alle richieste, sempre meno certe, di qualità e di confort. Il confort non è inteso quindi come equipaggiamento tecnologico o come prestazione, e nemmeno come aspetto misurabile attraverso parametri; il confort è invece inteso nei sui aspetti soggettivi e percettivi, collegato alla espressione di desideri e alla sedimentazione di pratiche. La ricerca del confort (all'interno della proposta culturale che fa orientare la flessibilità verso un concetto di indeterminatezza) mette alla prova le possibilità della tecnica e della progettazione. orientate verso la molteplicità di strati e versatilità d'usi. Questa ricerca permette di riportare al centro di ogni riflessione progettuale l'individualità irriducibile dell'essere umano.
