Abstract
Flow batteries are presented as an innovative system able to compete with other technologies for the storage of energy. This thesis presents an experimental study and analysis of the electrolyte flow within an electrochemical cell, in order to derive useful information for a design able to provide high performance and to study the complex system that binds the fluid dynamics within the cell to the electrochemical performance that it provides. The experimental phase and the flow analysis were conducted at the laboratories of the Research Institute for Industy, at the University of Southampton, the work was accomplished through a first documental stage, a second phase with the draft and the build up of the component to be studied and finally through a series of laboratory measurements. The study of the flow was conducted through simple photographic techniques, electrochemical measurements and the study of a fluid dynamic finite element model ehich has been done using the software Comsol Multiphysics.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
