My work is inspired to an Asf Italia's project and comes from the desire to relate to a different environment. We're in Badiadingi's neighborhood, south of Kinshasa, DRC, Africa. The project area is located on an eroded hill, that's a real natural disaster: the erosion is due to abundant rainfall and to the lack of a sewage system for disposal plumber that brought down the existing school Mulekera Pope. I proposed a bioengineering system to restore and consolidate the land collapsed, that exploits the properties of the roots of the plant Vetivera (already used successfully in the same municipality) that hold the ground. The city is situated on the banks of the second largest river in the world, but "the water is scarcer than in the Sahara" has a relatively affordable price, but the taps are always dry and the poor walk miles to fetch water from polluted rivers; many diseases are water related. Therefore I propose a system that recover and pasteurizate rainwater and the use of compost toilets, which does not waste water and do not require connection to the sewer. Studying the climate, I designed a ventilated roof and openings to allow natural ventilation and avoid direct irradiation of the classrooms. I suggest the use of local natural materials (earth, wood, bamboo, sandstone) and traditional building techniques (pisè, adobe), for their sustainability and to compensate economically the use of stainless steel in coverage and the purchase of pasteurizer. The other problem concerns the disposal of plastic bags: I thought about their recycling of plastic weaving yarns made from them to create a durable fabric and waterproof covers for the outdoor spaces. The current center hosts 300 students (nursery, primary, secondary) and does not meet the requirements of registration (is used to "time shift"): the construction of new classrooms will improve the operation. The school is designed to have a panoramic view over the valley (single point of visual interest). I propose the maintenance of existing trees and planting of local fruit trees.

Abstract
I propose the maintenance of existing trees and planting of local fruit trees.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
