In this thesis, we report our experience in addressing practical computational issues influencing the use of Geographic Information Systems and Geo-spatial data from the standpoint of Semantic Web. We discuss the need for treating GIS as Virtual RDF Graphs. In particular, we present a declarative mapping language as well as a prototypical system (namely G2R) that allows SPARQL query involving spatial computation to be executed in a mixed environment where a GIS and a RDF repository are orchestrated. The approach is evaluated by comparing G2R against two similar solution provided by Virtuoso and AllegroGraph.

Abstract
In this thesis, we report our experience in addressing practical computational issues influencing the use of Geographic Information Systems and Geo-spatial data from the standpoint of Semantic Web. We discuss the need for treating GIS as Virtual RDF Graphs. In particular, we present a declarative mapping language as well as a prototypical system (namely G2R) that allows SPARQL query involving spatial computation to be executed in a mixed environment where a GIS and a RDF repository are orchestrated. The approach is evaluated by comparing G2R against two similar solution provided by Virtuoso and AllegroGraph.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
