Comparison of ontology engineering, reasoning and management systems

Ontology management and knowledge representation is a very vast field. Until today various systems have been proposed, developed, tested for representation of rule based languages, ontology representation, reasoning, creation and management. This thesis focus is on making an analytical study of the following four systems namely IRIS, KAON, QuOnto and DLV. It will be elucidated and explained through examples how the aforementioned systems behave and what do they have or don‟t have in terms of the following four dimensions. Which are (1) Provided functionalities, (2) Type of storage, (3) Type of Language and (4) Expressive power. The different capabilities and limitations of each system will be compared and pointed out. For the better understanding examples will be presented as proof of concept throughout the thesis.
