Service System Design Research of Community Based Eco-tourism in Periurban Area. Chongming Island, Xianqiao Village

Rapid and high degree of urbanization is a double-edged sword. On one side, highly urbanization can promote the intensive use of land and the living standard and quality of rural life can be improved by modernization. However, in another degree, urbanization generates a series of economic, social and environmental issues, which to a large extent affects the symphonious sustainable development of urban and rural. This study is trying to find another direction of developing, which is different from the only urbanization, that is, through the service system design for community based eco-tourism in rururban area, to active rural resources, to promote interaction between urban and rural, and in order to realize symphonious sustainable development of rural and urban. Here, the paper attempts to introduce the concept of community-based eco-tourism and apply it on developing rural tourism. Besides, service system design will be used as methods and tools involving in the product, shape, function, services, to promote the sustainability of community based eco-tourism. The method of this design research is to take a village as the unit of study, to do the research and design of service system for community based eco-tourism. The method is used aim to take advantage of the existing rural resource, such as unused space, natural agriculture resource and rural human resource through the approach of bottom-up. Thereby, to stimulate original and input new economic vitality, to increase local employment opportunities, and preserve the natural environment and culture roots of local community. Finally, this study is focused on Xianqiao village and to design a service model for its developing community based eco-tourism. What’s more, it is expected that the service model will be designed as a prototype, which can be applied on developing other villages with the similar background.
