Segni in superficie. Il tempo e le materie plastiche

In an interconnected and fragile society as the one we live in, the perception of complexity, and therefore, of reality is continuously loosening. Our relationship with nature, which is unit and measure of all things, is becoming ​​marginal, generating a sense of loss, as nature is the source of our senses as well as of our system of perception. Moreover, objects are the link to our worlds: our houses are our environments, our new habitat; we relate with them with ties more or less conscious. This thesis aims to understand the role that objects can cover in reshaping our bondaries and our connection with reality, but also to analyze our relationship with them, dealing with imperfection, time and the signs it leaves on everyday objects. Thanks to these expressive abilities, objects can be fulfilled with a sense of reality and permanence, taking inspiration from nature and its ability to mutate and evolve over time.The time passing inscribes its signs on the surface of each object: no existing material, person or object can escape to its constant and precise job. In design field, the dignity of aging results with time as a variable that may be applied to a project, which can acquire a new range of values. More deeply, these themes have been applied on plastic, to enhance its possibilities, attempting to give new identities and the ability to represent the meaning of time.

In una società interconnessa e fragile come quella contemporanea, la percezione della complessità, e dunque della realtà, va allentandosi. Il rapporto con la natura, metro e misura di tutte le cose, si è reso marginale, causando di fatto un senso di smarrimento: nella natura sta l’origine dei nostri meccanismi percettivi, della nostra sensorialità. Gli oggetti, in questo senso, costituiscono il tramite tra noi e il mondo: la casa è il nostro ambiente, il nostro nuovo habitat; con essi instauriamo rapporti, legami più o meno consci, scambi semiotici. Questa tesi si propone quindi di comprendere il ruolo che gli oggetti possono acquisire nel recupero del senso di radicamento nella realtà, analizzando la nostra relazione con essi e facendo riferimento in particolare al tema dell’imperfezione, del tempo e dei segni che la pelle degli oggetti registra; tramite queste capacità espressive è possibile restituire agli oggetti il senso di concretezza e di permanenza nel mondo, ispirandosi alla natura e alla sua capacità di mutare ed evolvere nel tempo. Il passare del tempo si inscrive sulla superficie di ogni oggetto: non c’è materiale che venga risparmiato, persona o oggetto che possa sottrarsi al lavoro meticoloso e incessante del tempo. Nel design questa dignità dell’invecchiamento si traduce nel fare del tempo una variabile di progetto, facendo acquisire agli oggetti nuove qualità materiche. L’approfondimento di queste tematiche viene in questa tesi sperimentata lavorando sulla plastica e sulle sue possibilità, nel tentativo di donarle nuove identità e, in particolar modo, la capacità di rappresentare il senso del tempo.
