How important is today's beauty? We live in a society that is rooted in the concept of substance, but focuses more and more towards that of mere appearance. It 's strange to note that being "nice" create something "beautiful", live in a world full of beauty - artistic, cultural, image - is not enough. The beauty needs to added values​​, the extraordinary work of art to observe and contemplate how to escape from the cares of existence is no longer a concept of the present day. They need interaction, reassurance, user experience. Just as a person beautiful, but devoid of content, can be enchanted for a few moments and let the magic fade away quickly, while a project that does nothing and research, no interactions between different disciplines can only be mere ornament. Yet it is interesting to analyze the other side of the coin. While some make the beauty of a remedy to the danger of life, anxiety for the ephemeral, the other becomes synonymous with superfluous ornament away from the necessities of life. This thesis will try to merge the two concepts, to clarify the importance of the accessory in the world, especially jewelry, analyzing their evolution in time and the role of catalysts in different areas. Passing through the technologies that have lived in the ages past, analyzing the present and foreseeing the future, not the accessory will look more like "form of assurance of their existence", but as a useful object.

Quanto è importante oggi la bellezza? Viviamo in una società che affonda le proprie radici sul concetto di sostanza, ma che verte sempre di più verso quello di sola apparenza. E’ strano notare come essere “belli”, creare cose “belle”, vivere in un mondo ricco di bellezze - artistiche, culturali, d’immagine - non sia abbastanza. La bellezza ha bisogno di valori aggiunti, l’opera d’arte straordinaria da osservare e contemplare come fuga dagli affanni dell’esistenza non è più un concetto dei giorni nostri. Si ha bisogno di interazione, di rassicurazione, di user experience. Così come una persona bellissima, ma priva di contenuti, può incantare per pochi attimi e far svanire subito la magia, allo stesso tempo un progetto privo di funzionalità e ricerca, privo di interazioni tra ambiti disciplinari differenti non potrà che restare mero ornamento. Eppure è interessante analizzare anche l’altro lato della medaglia. Se da una parte c’è chi fa della bellezza un rimedio al pericolo della vita, all’angoscia per l’effimero, dall’altro diventa sinonimo di superfluo, ornamento lontano dalle necessità vitali. Questa tesi cercherà di fondere i due concetti, di chiarirne l’importanza nel mondo dell’accessorio, in particolare del gioiello, analizzando la loro evoluzione nel tempo e il ruolo di catalizzatori tra ambiti differenti. Passando per le tecnologie che hanno abitato le epoche passate, analizzando quelle attuali e prevedendo quelle future, non si guarderà più all’accessorio come “forma di rassicurazione della propria esistenza”, ma come oggetto utile.
