New York. New nature. Bridging the gap between the city and Hudson River

Speaking about Manhattan, one cannot forget the impression about the city of skyscrapers, where contains the most important Headquarters of the world. The image of the city has arrived to every corner of the earth thanks to important icons such as the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building or the Brooklyn Bridge, but also thanks to its people and culture. Soho neighborhood, Wall Street, and of course, Broadway, are known worldwide for different reasons. So many innovations started here, as Manhattan has become a symbol of high- developed world. From the very beginning, it shows the ambitions of subjugation to nature. “The sky is the limit”, they might say (The Syracuse Herald, 09/1911), but have New Yorkers forget about the nature? about the river that tenderly embraces this island? As from the first impression about the dominant artificial aspect of Manhattan, the thesis focus on the relationship between artifice and nature of Manhattan, especially on the West Side storage yard, one of the most critical point, in terms of infrastructure. Without interrupting any daily activities, the project propose a new Theater city, which brings equal chances to not only well-known artists, as Broadway does, but also small and middle art companies, an open public space for people, where the artifice, as building and technologies, really articulate with a new “nature”.

Parlando di Manhattan, non si può dimenticare l'impressione sulla città di grattacieli, dove contiene la sede più importante del mondo. L'immagine della città è arrivata in ogni angolo della terra, grazie alle icone importanti, come la Statua della Libertà, l'Empire State Building o il ponte di Brooklyn, ma anche grazie alla sua gente e la cultura. Soho quartiere, Wall Street, e, naturalmente, Broadway, sono conosciuti in tutto il mondo per motivi diversi. Tante innovazioni iniziato qui, come Manhattan è diventata un simbolo di alta sviluppato mondo. Fin dall'inizio, mostra le ambizioni di sottomissione alla natura. "Il cielo è il limite", si potrebbe dire (The Herald Siracusa, 09/1911), ma hanno i newyorkesi dimenticare la natura? sul fiume che abbraccia teneramente quest'isola? A partire dalla prima impressione circa l'aspetto dominante artificiale di Manhattan, l'attenzione tesi sul rapporto tra artificio e natura di Manhattan, in particolare sul cortile occidentale di archiviazione Side, uno dei punti più critici, in termini di infrastrutture. Senza interrompere le attività quotidiane, il progetto propone una nuova città teatro, che porta le stesse possibilità di non solo i noti artisti, come fa a Broadway, ma anche le imprese piccole e medie opere d'arte, uno spazio pubblico aperto per le persone, in cui l'artificio, in quanto costruzione e le tecnologie, in realtà si articolano con una nuova "natura".
