The Cadorna Line is a sophisticated defensive system created in perspective of First World War on the Lombard Alps, in order to prevent a possible attack from the Swiss Army. This system consisted of trenches and strongholds: one of those is Forte Lusardi. It is a mighty fortress built in 1912 on the Montecchio hill in Colico, partly excavated in the rock and partly built with reinforced concrete. The fortress still holds the four large naval cannons dating back to the time and which played an important part in the final days of Fascism. This work aims to consider this construction as part of the requalification of the whole Linea Cadorna, in order to preserve the memory of the First World War through the places where it was fought. This could then be included not only in the forthcoming centenary of First World War, but also in the works of the Expo which will be hosted in Lombardy, two events that will take place in 2015. To do this it was considered to convert the fort into a museum of the First World War, creating all that complex of infrastructures that will make possible a more friendly use of the structure itself. By deciding to use the stronghold only as a museum, it is here proposed to locate basic services (toilets) and auxiliary services (cafeteria and parking spaces) to another area and for this purpose it was considered to build these facilities in a new building so to be the least invasive as possible in order to reduce the impact to the environment and landscape of the hill. It was also thought of the possibility of creating additional space (a conference room and a hostel) which, if not exactly necessary to the usability of the site, could increase its tourist importance: they would be placed in another building, connected to the first and to the fort by paths that wind over the ridge and on the wooded slopes of the hill, that same hill which, during the Middle Ages, hosted the castle of the Vicedomini family.

Abstract
It was also thought of the possibility of creating additional space (a conference room and a hostel) which, if not exactly necessary to the usability of the site, could increase its tourist importance: they would be placed in another building, connected to the first and to the fort by paths that wind over the ridge and on the wooded slopes of the hill, that same hill which, during the Middle Ages, hosted the castle of the Vicedomini family.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
