The thesis is intended to investigate the entrainment phenomenon, simulating a flow of air parallel to a paraffin surface, in order to study the effect of different velocity profiles in the formation of droplets of paraffin in the above-mentioned flow. The effect is measured in terms of number of droplets and their sizes, being parameters that determine the regression rate in hybrid rockets which is one of the most important parameters in the performance of the rocket engines. The used tool is Gerris which is a free software program for the solution of the partial differential equations describing a fluid flow and allows the study of multiphase flows through a Volume of Fluid Method which is a numerical technique for tracking and locating interfaces, in particular fluid-fluid ones.

Abstract
The thesis is intended to investigate the entrainment phenomenon, simulating a flow of air parallel to a paraffin surface, in order to study the effect of different velocity profiles in the formation of droplets of paraffin in the above-mentioned flow. The effect is measured in terms of number of droplets and their sizes, being parameters that determine the regression rate in hybrid rockets which is one of the most important parameters in the performance of the rocket engines. The used tool is Gerris which is a free software program for the solution of the partial differential equations describing a fluid flow and allows the study of multiphase flows through a Volume of Fluid Method which is a numerical technique for tracking and locating interfaces, in particular fluid-fluid ones.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
