Sheet metal working process has undergone significant improvements in recent years which have ensured improvement of quality and mechanical properties of the products. The machining of high-strength alloys such as HARDOX ® need always better back up rollers to support the heavy load due to stronger working condition, and cheap solution due to the change of the global economy and the entry, even in these high-tech sectors, of emerging economies that are able to reduce production costs. This thesis investigates the causes that led to the failure of back up roll manufactured by LI-BE, a company that designs and manufactures special precision bearings since 1984. In this work we will try to apply standard design rules of the initial sizing of the bearing and, by simultaneously exploring different theories and computational methods, to assess the possibilities of their application in this field of engineering.

Abstract
Sheet metal working process has undergone significant improvements in recent years which have ensured improvement of quality and mechanical properties of the products. The machining of high-strength alloys such as HARDOX ® need always better back up rollers to support the heavy load due to stronger working condition, and cheap solution due to the change of the global economy and the entry, even in these high-tech sectors, of emerging economies that are able to reduce production costs. This thesis investigates the causes that led to the failure of back up roll manufactured by LI-BE, a company that designs and manufactures special precision bearings since 1984. In this work we will try to apply standard design rules of the initial sizing of the bearing and, by simultaneously exploring different theories and computational methods, to assess the possibilities of their application in this field of engineering.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
