Diesel internal combustion engines, characterised by a low fuel consumption and reduced CO2 emission, are a good answer in a world where environmental matters are becoming more and more important. The high NOx (NO+NO2) emission is the major problem of the lean combustion (oxigen rich), that occurs in these engines. The emission regulation, limiting the vehicles emissions, are continuously lowering the pollution levels, in particular for the NOx. For these reasons suitable and efficient catalytic after-treatment processes are studied to reduce the pollutant emissions. With the goal to accelerate the design and realisation time it is very useful a modeling tool that performs a simulation of the complete process: thermal, chemical and fluidodynamic. The purpose of this work is to develop a 3-D model suitable to simulate the chemical process going on in a SCR reactor. After a preliminary study of catalytic selective reduction, the calculation model has been implemented in the OpenFOAMR° code. The model has been realised building new classes and modifying pre-existing ones in a way to simulate the overall process. Finally with the goal to validate the model have been compared the numerical results to the data available in the literature pointing out a similar trends between the model and the measurements.

Abstract
Finally with the goal to validate the model have been compared the numerical results to the data available in the literature pointing out a similar trends between the model and the measurements.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
